hoponrome.com is an independent price comparison for the hop-on hop-off buses in Rome. This page explains who runs it, how it is financed and where the data comes from.

Who is behind this site

hoponrome.com is run by Patrick Kühne, an independent travel publisher based in Markkleeberg near Leipzig, Germany. He builds and maintains a small portfolio of guides to city passes and attraction tickets across Europe. There is no agency and no rotating editorial team behind this site: the pages are researched, written and kept up to date by one person — the same one who answers the e-mails.

What this site does

Four operators run hop-on hop-off buses in Rome — Big Bus, City Sightseeing, I Love Rome and Green Line — and each is sold by several resellers at prices that move daily. We describe what actually separates the routes: which stops they serve, how often they run, whether the upper deck is open. Then we show live prices from Tiqets, GetYourGuide and Headout side by side, so the choice happens in one place. We do not sell tickets ourselves — every booking happens on the reseller’s own site.

How we earn money

When you book through one of our links, the reseller pays us a commission. Your price stays exactly the same: the commission comes out of their margin, not your pocket. No contract obliges us to favour a particular reseller, and the comparison is ordered by what the traveller pays, not by what pays us best. If the cheapest option is the one that earns us least, it still goes first.

Where our data comes from

Prices and ratings come straight from the official APIs of Tiqets, GetYourGuide and Headout and are refreshed automatically several times a day, so the number on the page is the number at checkout. Routes, stops, frequencies and operating hours come from the bus operators themselves and are re-checked regularly. Found something out of date? Write to us and we will correct it.

What we are not

We do not operate any buses and we are not affiliated with Big Bus, City Sightseeing, I Love Rome or Green Line. They run the routes; we compare them. For binding information — timetable changes, strikes, route closures — the operator’s own channels always take precedence.
